“All of this talk about walls tonight,” Grisham said in the tweet in reference to Trump’s address, while also adding the #SOTU hashtag.
In the short campaign ad, Lujan Grisham starts by discussing New Mexico’s ranking among other U.S. states in employment and education.
“New Mexico is 49th for employment and 50th for schools,” Lujan Grisham begins. “We gotta bust through some walls to make changes.”
Lujan Grisham could then be seen in the clip putting on a pair of construction goggles before running through a wall into a room of people dressed as construction workers.
“I’ll create public and private partnerships to rebuild our infrastructure,” Lujan Grisham says before running through another wall.
“We need more apprenticeships and skills training,” Lujan Grisham continues before running into a classroom of students. “And we have billions in the permanent fund to invest in schools and small businesses.”
Lujan Grisham then runs through a final wall at the end of the video that bears a poster of President Trump, saying: “And here’s what I think of Trump’s wall.”
Lujan Grisham became the first Democratic woman to be elected as governor of New Mexico in November.
Her response came shortly after Trump’s State of the Union, during which he stuck to his hard line on illegal immigration and insisted that “walls work and walls save lives.”
“Wealthy politicians and donors push for open borders while living their lives behind walls and gates and guards. Meanwhile, working class Americans are left to pay the price for mass illegal migration,” he also said.
