The fashion world fell in love with Thakoon Panichgul between 2007 and 2009, when he dressed Michelle Obama for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, rolled out a collaboration with Target, and had a central role in The September Issue. A decade later, Panichgul has launched a revamped version of his eponymous label after taking a two-year hiatus from designing. But his wearable, elevated style remains the same. The line is a curated selection of essentials — oversize chunky sweaters and more special pieces like a camel-colored wrap jacket with a white bow. A new storefront also just opened in Soho, at 397 Bleecker Street. We spoke with him about linen, how to serve appetizers, and pleated pants.

How do you thank someone for a gift?
With a handwritten note card.

Secret to hosting a good party?
Space out the appetizers into three segments (nuts, cheese, nibbles). Make a simple one-pot or all-in-the-oven main dish because it’s not only easier to cook for many people, but it’s also cozier.

Pleated pants and tucked in T-shirts for men.

One you don’t understand?
Overdressing for fashion shows.
