The Premier League champions made a winning start to the defence of their crown on the opening weekend, while the Terriers suffered a heavy defeat

Defending Premier League champions Manchester City made a winning start to the defence of their title and will be hoping for more of the same against Huddersfield.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who swept to the crown in record-breaking style last season, made light work of a trip to Arsenal on the opening weekend.

A first outing of the campaign at the Etihad Stadium will see them going in search of more goals against a side handed the most testing of starts.

The Terriers head to Manchester on the back of a 3-0 reversal against Chelsea, with the fixture list doing them few favours as they seek to once again cement a standing among the elite.

The last time Manchester City welcomed Huddersfield to the Etihad Stadium, they got their hands on the Premier League trophy.

With those celebrations at the back of their mind, the Blues endured a rare off day in an otherwise remarkable season.

The Terriers were able to grind out a goalless draw at the home of the champions, with that precious point helping them to safety.

Pep Guardiola’s side also found their West Yorkshire foes to be a tough nut to crack on the road, with City having to come from behind to seal a 2-1 success through Raheem Sterling’s 84th-minute strike.

David Wagner will be setting his side up to frustrate once more, with Huddersfield in need of a boost to morale on the back of a disappointing showing against Chelsea.

City, though, appear to have picked up where they left off in 2017-18 and will be determined to avoid offering their rivals a glimmer of hope in a renewed battle for Premier League supremacy.
