To be clear, we’re not recommending that anyone try to pilfer a soda at a fast-food restaurant, or anywhere. You pay for what you drink. That’s the rule of law. All we’re saying is that random acts of petty theft, like one that recently occurred at a McDonald’s restaurant and resulted in a vicious brawl, were settled without the whole world knowing about it in the days before everyone had a video camera in their hand.
What Marie Dayag captured on video at a McDonald’s restaurant demonstrates that clearly. People can’t seem to get enough of almost everyone involved behaving badly. The video starts after a woman asked for a cup for water, which is free. When she tried to sneak soda into the empty cup, a worker shut down the soda machine.
Problem solved, right? No, not even close. All hell broke loose.
The video, which Dayag originally posted on Facebook and then on YouTube after Facebook took it down, begins when the fight was already in progress. It shows the customer throwing what appears to be a milkshake at the McDonald’s worker.
Fists started flying. The worker started punching the customer and threw her face-forward into a counter. She put up a fight, but the worker tossed her into a booth. Another customer tried to defuse the situation as another McDonald’s worker forcefully walked the woman away from the situation.

But the customer, the one who had tried to get the free soda, didn’t go quietly and the situation continued to fall apart. She started throwing elbows at the employee, who retaliated with a sharp slap and grabbed her by the hair. The first employee got involved again, pulling the woman’s hair and shoving her backward into a table.
“My momma ain’t dead, you respect my momma,” the employee shouted as the woman walked away.

But the brawl wasn’t over yet. The customer charged back, a chair in hand and appeared to be ready to hurl it at the worker when she took it away.
“Don’t try me,” someone said as video ended.
It’s unclear where the incident took place, but Dayag’s Facebook page indicates she lives in Las Vegas.
McDonald’s said in a statement to Newsweek that the chain does “not condone the behavior depicted in this video” and is investigating.
