Disneyland Resort went dark on the national day of mourning Nov. 25, 1963, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The second followed the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Never has the park been closed for the duration it is suggesting for the current the public health crisis.
Following Saturday’s parks closure, all of the hotels owned by the Disneyland Resort—Paradise Pier, Disney’s Grand Californian, and the Disneyland Hotel— will remain open through Monday, while guests make other travel arrangements.
On Tuesday and through the end of March, all resort property hotels are scheduled for closure until the month’s end.
Downtown Disney will remain open as well. It was not known as of Thursday how long those shops and restaurants would stay open.
Although Disneyland Resort, as well as other area theme parks, had been allowed to remain open by Gov. Gavin Newsom, the park decided to made other arrangements.
In remarks Thursday, Newsom discussed a conversation he had Wednesday with former Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger. “The complexity of (Disneyland’s and other theme parks’) unique circumstances require additional conversation, a different kind of engagement in real time,” he said.
According to the city of Anaheim, the guidelines call for modifying or postponing nonessential gatherings of 250 or more people through at least March 31 to help stem the spread of coronavirus across the state.

“We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies,” the spokesperson said.
As for cast members, their paychecks will keep coming while the park is closed, the park has said.
Disneyland Resort will work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, it said, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period.
