Something major may be brewing in the underbelly of independent wrestling, as several superstars from the WWE NXT brand unexpectedly invaded Sunday night’s EVOLVE 114 event in Ybor City, Florida.

It was reported ahead of time that The Street Profits would be competing on the show, challenging Doom Patrol for the EVOLVE Tag Team Championships. What wasn’t expected, however, was that the NXT stars would actually walk away with the gold.

A similarly shocking incident happened just a few matches later, as WWE developmental talent Fabian Aichner made another surprise appearance, challenging EVOLVE Champion Shane Strickland. And he won…

Also on the card was Adrian Joude, Jesse and Dan Matha, all NXT development stars that work the local Florida touring events; each participated in their own match on the card, and by the end of the show almost every single bout had been influenced by WWE talent in one way or another.

It’s been a well known and reported fact for quite some time now that WWN (EVOLVE’s parent company) has a tight connection with WWE, specifically its owner Gabe Sapolsky. It has already been announced that the Street Profits and Fabian Aichner will be staying with the indie promotion to defend their titles next month, when EVOLVE invades the midwest with two shows in Detroit and Chicago.
