As we noted earlier today, Rey Mysterio has signed a deal with the Aro Lucha promotion as both co-owner and an in-ring performer.
When news broke regarding Mysterio signing with the Lucha Libre promotion, speculation began regarding the status of his ongoing negotiations with WWE, and whether or not the Lucha signing would rule out a possible Mysterio return to WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Mysterio signing with Aro Lucha will not hinder his talks with WWE, nor will the signing prevent Mysterio from working with WWE should a deal get signed. Meltzer added that Mysterio is “absolutely” still in talks with WWE about a return, and that the original report published by The Tennessean was somewhat “overblown” although Meltzer confirmed Mysterio has agreed to appear at the upcoming Lucha TV tapings.
Prior to the news of the Aro Lucha deal, Mysterio had been in continued talks with WWE regarding a return, possibly in time for a match at WrestleMania 34, and his recent partially torn biceps muscle has not halted the talks between him and WWE, and both sides are proceeding with negotiations.
Mysterio is scheduled to face Jushin Liger at the upcoming NJPW Long Beach event, however, he might wait until the last minute to make his decision as to whether or not he can compete following the biceps injury.
