Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and InfoWars have been permanently banned from Twitter, the company announced. Twitter was the last big tech platform where Jones was continuing to publicly post after bans and removals from others.
Twitter said it took the action based on new reports of tweets and videos posted Wednesday that violate the company’s “abusive behavior policy.” Twitter said its action was also based on past violations by the two accounts.
The company also said it will continue to evaluate reports regarding other accounts that might be associated with the Alex Jones and InfoWars accounts and would take action if the content violates its rules.
Twitter had suspended Jones’ account and the InfoWars account for one week in August but both accounts had since been reinstated.
Other platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Apple had suspended Jones earlier this summer. Facebook’s suspension was only for 30 days and Jones has since returned to the platform and is posting in a private Facebook group with more than 110,000 members, according to The New York Times.
Jones is known for peddling dangerous conspiracy theories like calling the children killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012 “actors” and saying that the events of Sept. 11, 2001 were an inside job carried out by the government.
