COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Claiming three individual titlists and 12 placewinners, the Augsburg College wrestling team competed at the Saint John’s University North Country Open, held on Saturday at Sexton Arena.
Top-ranked heavyweight Donny Longendyke (JR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), No. 10-ranked 133-pounder Sam Bennyhoff (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and 157-pounder Grant Parker (JR, Onalaska, Wis.) all won weight-class titles for the Auggies.
Longendyke improved to 25-2 on the season with four victories on Saturday, including two by pin and one by major decision, with two wins over Division II wrestlers and two wins over Division I wrestlers. Of his 25 wins, 16 are by pin and three are by major decision. He is now 109-25 in his collegiate career, with 61 pins, three technical falls and 18 major decisions.
Bennyhoff scored four wins, including a pin and technical fall, to improve to 19-3 on the season, including five pins and five technical falls. Bennyhoff claimed a 5-3 win over Tyler Pasvogel of St. Cloud State in the finals.
Parker claimed two wins, including a victory over teammate Tone Fuenffinger (SO, Hibbing, Minn.) in the finals at 157. Parker is now 21-9 on the season, while Fuenffinger is now 17-11.
Marcus Hamer (JR, Kimball, Minn.) placed second for the Auggies at 149 pounds, going 3-1 on the day to improve to 19-11 on the season. Teammate Rashad Kennedy (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS), ranked No. 7 nationally at 149, and Alex Wilson (FY, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS), shared third place in the weight class, both going 3-1.
Sebastian Larson (SO, River Falls, Wis.) went 2-1, including a pin, to finish second at 184.
Boone Young (FY, Two Rivers, Wis./Mishicot HS) finished fifth at 157 pounds. Placing sixth were Alberto Ramirez (SO, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) at 141, Bryce Zdanovec (SO, Little Chute, Wis.) at 149 and Logan Hortop (JR, Faribault, Minn.) at 197.
