SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana University head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier has announced the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2016-17 season.

Jackson Sweeney (Watertown Minn.), Austin Ward (Bethany, Mo.), Ben Kelvington (Jordan, Minn.), Ethan Cota (Kenyon,Minn.), Skylar Hieronimus (Adrian, Minn.), Jebben Keyes (Pierre, S.D.), Brandon Carroll (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Kyle Yager (Sioux Falls, S.D.) have signed letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at Augustana.

The first day of the early signing period for collegiate wrestling programs was Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Jackson Sweeney | Watertown, Minn.| Watertown-Mayer High School

High School Notes: Went 29-4 and was a state runner-up his junior year… Had 47 takedowns and 13 pins…  first team all-state academic team… Went 30-10 and section champions  sophomore year … Had 66 takedowns and 13 pins… Went 32-6 his freshmen year… Had 45 takedown and seven pins… three-year letterwinner

Personal: Born on May 13, 1997… In Tampa, Fla. to Brett and Julie Sweeney… He plans on majoring in Engineering with career goals to go into Civil Engineering and to win a national Championship

Austin Ward | Bethany, Mo. | South Harrison High School

High School Notes: Went 54-0 and was conference, district and state champion his junior year… district wrestler of the Year his junior and freshman year… conference champion and district champion his sophomore year… third place state finish… 49-3 record his freshman year and was conference and district champion

Personal: Born on July 25, 1997… In St. Joseph, Mo. to Greg and Camelle Ward… He plans on majoring in Physical Education with career goals of being a teacher and coach and to help his father on the farm

Meester on Ward: “The first thing I think of when I hear his name is talent! Austin has the ability to do things on a wrestling mat that most people can’t imagine. He has a high scoring, high energy style that will be very entertaining for Vikings fans. We look for Austin to challenge for a starting position immediately.”

Benjamin Kelvington | Jordan, Minn. | Jordan High School

High School Notes:  four-year letterwinner… all-conference and state qualifier his Junior and Sophomore year… His team was state runner-ups his sophomore year… His team placed third at state his junior year

Personal: Born on February 4, 1998… In Jordan, Minn. to Brian and Mari Kelvington… He plans on majoring in Biochemistry

Reitmeier on Kelvington: “Ben is solid in all positions, but really shines on top. He is a guy that does a ton of wrestling year round and that has shown in his improvement. He comes from a great wrestling family and we look forward to having him become part of the Augustana wrestling family.

Ethan Cota | Kenyon, Minn. | Kenyon Wanamingo High School

High School Notes: Went 46-1 his junior year… class A 106-pound state champion… Fairbault All-Area Wrestler of the Year… first team academic all-state… Dave Mauseth Invitational Outstanding Wrestler Award… went 36-10 his sophomore Year… placed fifth in the Class A 106-pound state championship… all-conference and academic all-conference… Went 6-1 his freshman year

Personal: Born on April 17, 1998… in St. Paul, Minn. to Shane and Tova Cota… He plans on majoring in Computer Science

Fink on Cota: “Ethan has everything we look for in a 125 pounder. he’s fast, strong and extremely disciplined. He’s a great fit for our program academically and athletically and will make an impact in our lighter weights immediately.”

Skylar Hieronimus | Adrian, Minn.

High School Notes: Went 31-6 his junior year and was all-state academic… Went 42-2 his sophomore year and was a state champion… Went 36-10 his freshman year and was a state participant

Personal: Born on June 24, 1997… in Luverne, Minn. to Tim and Jackie Hieronimus… He plans on majoring in Business Management

Meester on Hieronimus: “Jason and I have known Skylar and his family for a very long time. We are both really excited to have the opportunity to coach him. he has been a winner at every level and we expect him to carry that over to college.”

Jebben Keyes | Pierre, S.D.

High School Notes:  Went 45-3 and was a state champion his junior year… Had 62 take-downs and 30 pins… Went 41-3 and was a state champion his sophomore year… Had 64 take-downs and 25 pins… Went 39-6 and was a state runner-up his freshman year… Had 72 take-downs and 17 pins

Personal: Born on May 24, 1997… in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Jim and Tracy Keyes… He plans on majoring in pre-Chiropractic and plans on owning his own Chiropractic and Acupuncture business

Reitmeier on Keyes: Jebben is a leader by example, and is one of the hardest workers out there. i have had the opportunity to watch him compete many times, and no matter the circumstance, he always finds a way to win. I have no doubt that Jebben will get it done on the mat and in the classroom.”

Brandon Carroll | Sioux Falls, S.D. | Roosevelt High School

High School Notes: Went 43-4 and was a state champion at 113 pounds his junior year… had 18 pins and six technical falls…. Went 46-5 and was a state champion at 106 pounds his sophomore year… South Dakota Triple Crown winner… Won the team award for never missing a practice the past two years… state champion in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling his freshman year

Personal: Born on June 22, 1998… in Superior, Wisc. to Mandi Edquist and Jose Jimenez … He plans on majoring in Exercise Science and he hopes to become a National Champion

Fink on Carroll: “Being from Sioux Falls, Brandon already feels like a part of our program. He has been coming to our campus, clinics and matches for years now. He is a kid that has put a ton of effort and time into his wrestling and has really transformed himself into a talented wrestler. We look forward to having him on the team.”

Kyle Yasgar | Sioux Falls, S.D. | Roosevelt High School

High School Notes: Went 47-4 and was state champion his junior year… all-conference with 107 takedowns, 19 falls, 27 escapes and 13 reversals… 41-15 record and was all-conference his sophomore year… 63 takedowns, 14 reversals, 44 escapes and 15 falls… 41-7 record and was a state champion his freshman year… all-conference with 71 takedowns, 8 reversals, 47 escapes and 13 falls.
Personal: Born on November 24, 1997… in Sioux Falls, S.D.to Dean Yasgar and Sheryl Korzan… He plans on majoring in Exercise Science

Meester on Yasgar: “Kyle is another kid that has been around our program for a long time. In the past he has battled through some serious injuries and still has been able to accomplish some outstanding things on the mat. We really like the toughness that Kyle will bring to our room and with a little bit of growth could make an immediate impact on our program.”
