A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was arrested and charged with illegally selling guns.
A criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday revealed that Wei Xu, a watch commander at CBP’s Los Angeles and Long Beach Seaport, allegedly sold at least 70 guns without a license in the last five years, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Xu was arrested after allegedly selling four guns to an undercover agent.
The 56-year-old was charged with dealing in firearms without a federal firearms license and unlawfully transferring an unregistered short-barreled rifle, according to the report.
Authorities said they seized more than 300 firearms, including apparent machine guns, from Xu’s home on Tuesday.
Prosecutors also accused Xu of using his position as a law enforcement officer to run his gun-dealing operation by selling firearms that are not available to the general public, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Xu was ordered detained without bond on Wednesday pending trial and is due in court a second time later this month. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
