One of Chanel’s many, many projects is an exhibit titled “Mademoiselle Privé,” which has been traveling the globe since 2015. The show features three of the brand’s creative worlds: Chanel No. 5, the iconic scent launched in 1921; Bijoux de Diamants, the jewelry collection designed by Gabrielle Chanel in 1932; and of course haute couture, as reinvented over the past few decades by the late Karl Lagerfeld. The show began in London, went to Seoul in 2017 and Hong Kong in 2018, and has just landed in Shanghai, where it will be on view from April 20 to June 2 in the West Bund Art Center.
Last night at the exhibit’s opening party, guests included model Liu Wen, actresses Keira Knightly and Julianne Moore, singer Dua Lipa, and many boldface names from the Asian fashion world. The show’s social-media game is on point: Visitors can experience the exhibit through Chanel’s special account on WeChat, China’s megapopular social network (imagine a combination of Instagram and SnapChat), which features fun teasers, interviews with celebs and friends of Chanel, highlights of the exhibitions, workshops, talks, and even film screenings.
The interaction rooms at the party were a highlight, but nothing could beat the dumplings and dan dan noodles that were served for guests. Chanel plus dumplings: Is there any better combination? Below, scroll to see photos of guests at the party.
