After spending years with WWE, Dean Ambrose is set to conclude his run with the company at the end of the month. Ambrose has chosen not to sign a new deal with WWE and has been wrapping up his commitments and remaining appearances. Although some fans believe that Ambrose may be on his way into another wrestling promotion soon, the former WWE Champion may actually be looking to retire from the business. According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, some sources say that Ambrose will not continue wrestling after leaving WWE. It was noted that Ambrose likely won’t be permanently retired because he is still young, loves the business, and can still make millions of dollars. Ambrose’s last match as part of The Shield will air tonight on the WWE Network.
When WrestleMania comes to an end every year, WWE typically airs the Backlash pay-per-view the following month. However, the Backlash show is not taking place any time within the next few weeks and is not even listed in WWE’s upcoming events. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this is because WWE cancelled this year’s event. Unlike previous years, Backlash wasn’t supposed to take place until June this year, but WWE still decided to cancel Backlash because they will already be hosting a huge event when they return to Saudi Arabia that very month. WWE is still set to host an NXT Takeover event and live events around the time of the Saudi Arabia show, but those yet to be cancelled by WWE.
It was confirmed yesterday that Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes will be coming to the Double or Nothing pay-per-view next month to face his brother Cody Rhodes in a singles match. Dustin appearing on the All Elite Wrestling event puts an end to his recent run in WWE, and the company has moved his profile to the alumni section on their website. Dustin said that he was still under contract with WWE back in March, and WWE never confirmed that he had been released or that he quit the company. According to Dave Meltzer on Twitter, his contract with the promotion simply expired not too long ago. Both sides did not renew the deal, thus making Dustin a free agent and legally allowed to appear on Double or Nothing.
