According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the “Battle of the Champions” fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 appears to have been a disappointment in terms of PPV buys.

The report notes early numbers look to be around 380,000 buys, and UFC was hoping to net at least 500,000 buys. The lower buyrate appears to be a sign that titles mean very little in UFC, as there are so many titles, and are “hot-potatoed” on a consistent basis, belittling a “title vs title” match when the interest in the belts is low.

In related news, following Brock Lesnar’s appearance at UFC 226, former UFC Champion Dominick Cruz appeared on The Scott & BR Show on 1090 AM in San Diego, and had the following to say about the current WWE Universal Champion:

“If he makes it to the [Daniel Cormier] fight I’d be shocked,” Cruz said of Lesnar, h/t to Forbes.com for the transcription. “And I just mean that because USADA is the toughest anti-doping system there is on planet Earth, and that guy is absolutely doping. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. And he’s not been in mixed martial arts, so of course he’s been doing that stuff. How they’re going to get him to be clean on fight night is beyond me.”

In other Lesnar news, we noted earlier today that Paul Heyman was in Boston for Raw this week, as he was overseeing the opening segment with Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns. Heyman also did some scripting of the Lashley/Reigns segments which took place later in the show.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Heyman overseeing the Lashley and Reigns segments is a good indication that one of the two talents, or both Lashley and Reigns, are next heading into a feud with Lesnar. “That’s Lesnar’s angle”, said Meltzer of why Heyman was at Raw in Boston. As of now, there is no timetable for when Lesnar’s next title match will take place, but he is under contract with WWE until August, so it might come sooner rather than later.
