The koalas, as you will be aware, have been having a terrible time lately, their habitats ravaged by bushfires sweeping through Australia. With temperatures soaring into the triple digits, koalas have been left dehydrated and burnt and homeless: New South Wales has lost up to 30 percent of these critters as a result of sustained and serious blazes. And: the koalas are very thirsty! So thirsty that they might just approach a passing human and politely demand a little drink, if you please.
That’s what happened to cyclist Anna Heusler as she rode through Adelaide, Australia, last week. Heusler told CNN that when she spotted a koala in the middle of the road, she stopped to corral it over to the side, so it wouldn’t get hit by a car. The koala, however, had other ideas.
“This koala walked right up to me as I was descending and climbed up onto my bike while I gave him water,” she explained in an Instagram caption. “BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO ME ON A RIDE EVER.”
Heusler posted a video of Thirsty Koala glugging down the bottle’s contents in huge noisy gulps, the water running down its chin and onto its little fur bod.
It looks, I imagine, much like you — you know, when you wake up at 3 a.m. to discover that your mouth turned into a desert? And now you have no choice but to chug one full liter of water in under a minute, as loudly as possible, there are no other options? And it’s dribbling all over your sheets and the bottom half of your face is soaked but you cannot, will not, stop? Thirsty Koala looks like that, only maybe a little cuter. I mean, I’m sure you’re very cute, but peep this gremlin.
