With the Big Ten Conference’s announcement of conference schedules on Wednesday morning, the Gopher wrestling program now has a clear picture of their 2019-20 schedule that includes the five top teams from the NCAA Championships.
Those five teams, in order of finish, are Penn State, Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan, and Oklahoma State.
The Gophers season officially kicks off with a dual against Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 1 with another home dual against Rider only two weeks later. Last season the Gophers were set to take on Rider in a special dual at Northrop Auditorium before the match was canceled due to inclement weather. The location for the Rider dual is not yet confirmed.
All official times will be announced at a later date.
As usual, the Gophers will also take part in the annual Bison Open on Nov. 9 and the Daktronics Open on Nov. 17.
Minnesota’s first road test comes against yearly rival Oklahoma State in historic Stillwater, Oklahoma in the final match before Thanksgiving.
After the holiday the Gophers head back to Las Vegas for the third straight year to take part in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Over three weeks after their last dual with Oklahoma State the Gophers head back to Brookings, South Dakota, to take on former Gopher, and current SDSU head coach, Damion Hahn on Dec. 20.
As Minnesota winter closes in on the Twin Cities in late December the Gophers will head to the South Beach Duals for the third season where they will take on four yet unknown teams.
With the New Year behind them, the Gophers officially open the Big Ten season against noted rival Wisconsin on Jan. 10 back at Maturi Pavilion for the first time since Nov. 9.
The first conference road swing comes the weekend of Jan. 17 when the Gophers take on Michigan State and Michigan.
The Gophers return home when the Buckeyes of Ohio State come to Dinkytown on Jan. 26.
Following the Buckeye dual, the Gophers head to Purdue as January closes before taking on Indiana in Bloomington two days into February.
On February 9 the Gophers welcome four-time defending champion Penn State to Maturi Pavilion for the team’s first dual in Minneapolis since Jan. 6, 2017.
Next, Minnesota travels to Carver-Hawkeye Arena for a Nov. 15 dual against border rival Iowa.
The final home dual will come on Nov. 21 when the Nebraska Cornhuskers come to town as the Gophers look to avenge last seasons’ narrow three-point loss.
All of this culminates from March 19-21 when Minnesota hosts the NCAA Championships at US Bank Stadium. The weekend will mark the first time the event has been hosted in a football arena, for more information on tickets CLICK HERE.
