The UFC is teasing a “new era of MMA” as the combat sports titan gets set to run their first ever event on ESPN+ this Saturday night, and along with the shift in network distribution has come a brand new, totally redesigned set of championship belts.
The new “UFC Legacy Championship Belt” will pay tribute to the sport’s past, including eight miniature flags that represent the first eight countries who played home to the promotion’s first champions; the United States, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands, Poland, Belarus, the United Kingdom and Ireland. 25 stones will also adorn the title representing the 25 years UFC has been in business.
One of the more interesting features of the new title belts is that the side plates each feature eight stones, which will be replaced by red stones — one for each win in a champion’s reign, as well as an engraving of the date and location of the win.
The first UFC Legacy Championship Belt will be awarded to the winner of this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night main event, as Henry Cejudo defends his Flyweight Championship against the current Bantamweight Champion, T.J. Dillashaw, who is looking to become the third multi-weight dual champion active in the company.
