Montpellier have confirmed the signing of Czech Republic international Lukas Pokorny from Slovan Liberec.

MHSC had been searching for a defensive player in the January transfer window and after weeks of trying they finally found one in Pokorny. The fee is yet to officially announced by the two clubs, but it is believed that the Czech’s contract will take him to 2019.

The 23-year-old has made his name with Slovan Liberec where he has spent his whole career, and made a few notable appearances in this season’s Europa League where he captained his team to a 3-0 defeat of Qarabag and a 2-0 away defeat to Greek side PAOK.

Pokorny made his debut for the national side on August 31st 2016 where he played 45 minutes in 3-0 friendly win against Armenia, and was also on the bench for the Czech’s game against Northern Ireland, but didn’t make a appearance.

From all reports it seems that Montpellier have found a good young player in Pokorny, and the former French champions are confident he can be the defensive player they’ve been looking for.
