Aside from numerous questions about the European Commission’s decision to fine Facebook €110 million for its WhatsApp merger misstep, it was a rather short and uneventful daily press briefing.

Commission chief spokesman Margaritis Schinas said Jean-Claude Juncker had phone conversations with new French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and key ministers in his government — Justice Minister François Bayrou, Armed Forces Minister Sylvie Goulard and Economy Minister Bruno Lemaire.

He also said no decision was taken on a proposed laptop ban on airlines during a meeting between EU and U.S. officials on Wednesday afternoon. There will be another meeting in Washington.

The Commission is on Friday expected to provide details on a meeting that will take place between Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk and U.S. President Donald Trump who will be in Brussels next week for a NATO summit.
