In a massive win for the Dantewada tribals who have been protesting mining on a hill for about a week, the government put a halt to all mining activities at the iron ore deposit.
Thousands of tribals have been protesting the mining activities on Bailadila hills and felling of trees for past one week, and finally their efforts bore fruition when Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday ordered an immediate stay on felling of trees and stopped all mining activities in the region.
The National Mineral Development Corporation (NDMC) had granted the contract for the excavation and mine development to Adani Enterprises.
