In first matches during World Grand Prix 2013 Turkey won in Pool C with Algeria 3-0 (25-13, 25-18 25-15) and Netherlands defeated Cuba in Pool D also 3-0 (25-20 25-14 25-11).

Turkish team controlled the game in Ankara and didn’t let play girls from Algeria. Massimo Barbolini seeing that will be an easy victory, changed most starting players at half of second set. Both teams had similar amount of errors, but the biggest difference was spike (Turkey 39 points, Algeria only 18). The best scorer was Opposite Neslihan Darnel, new team captain with 8 points.

In second match (first which was held) in Macau Netherlands smashed Cuba. Cuban team this summer was again weakened by escapes. This time team left main setters/opposites (Cuba used system with 2 setters/hitters on court): Ana Cleger and Lillianny Marcillan. Today coach Juan Carlos Gala used tactics with one setter and most experienced player, Yoana Palacio as opposite. Unfortunately new girls are inexperienced and they made so many mistakes.
Dutch team also with some new players had small difficulties only in first set, making many mistakes on sevre and reception. Later Dutch players found their rhythm and Cubans played more chaotic game. Best scores became Dutch Middle Blockers: Quinta Steenbergen (11 points) and Robin De Kruijf (10 points).
